What Did We Meet Somewhere Before Is About
Maximov, a well known stage performer, is about to go on holiday with his wife, but she is called back to the theatre at the last minute and he boards the train alone. He misses his train at one of the stations and is stranded in a city he does not know; to get where he is going he has to give a performance there. But he is so well known that nobody leaves him in peace; everyone comes to him with a request. The film places a stage performer’s own turns inside an account and shows fame as both an opportunity and a weight. It became one of the most watched examples of Soviet comedy in the fifties. Arkadiy Raykin appears in the eighty nine minute Soviet film by Andrei Tutyshkin and Nikolay Dostal, completed in 1954.
