What Dodging the Clock Is About
Three friends in their early thirties have arrived at the same place: the age for building a life and maybe having a child. One of them is ready for it, one is running, and one does not know what he wants. When a baby arrives the friendships shift as well; the world shrinks and youth turns into the past overnight. Ricardo Trogi's Quebec comedy tells that passage directly and without embarrassment. The telling neither exalts fatherhood nor presents it as a loss; it says both at once. The humour is hard and sometimes coarse, but it does not mock its characters. It is an example of the popular strain of Quebec cinema of its period and speaks straight to a local audience.
