Ricardo Trogi's 2014 Canadian film is the second part of his autobiographical trilogy. It covers one summer in the life of seventeen-year-old Ricardo in Quebec, and all the classic adolescent aims are on the list: losing his virginity, getting into bars, buying a car and being with his friends. When money is needed for these he drifts into small-time crime through his Italian relations. The film loves its nostalgia but does not protect its subject; Ricardo lies, is selfish and is left looking ridiculous most of the time. The director himself narrates, interrupting to mock his own youth. The music, the clothes and the life of an immigrant family are built in detail. It found a wide audience in Quebec. Who it's for: viewers who like adolescent comedy and eighties nostalgia. Who it's not for: anyone who has not seen the other films in the trilogy; it stands alone but loses context.
