Eddie the Eagle

The project circled for years before reaching Dexter Fletcher. In 2007 it was announced as a Declan Lowney film with Steve Coogan in the lead; by 2009 the part was linked to Rupert Grint. Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman were confirmed only in 2015. The coach Jackman plays, Bronson Peary, is invented, and Christopher Walken plays that invented coach’s mentor. In 2015 Edwards said he had been told only 10 to 15 per cent of the film came from his life, that he had not read the script, and that he was anxious about his portrayal. The snow is not always snow. Shooting ran through Oberstdorf and Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria, Seefeld in Tirol, Pinewood and London, with the dry slope work done on an artificial slope at Bracknell in Berkshire. It is partly a German co-production, with 2.2 million euros from the German federal film fund. At Calgary in 1988 Edwards finished last in both the 70 metre and the 90 metre events. It premiered as a surprise screening at Sundance in 2016. A good fit if you are content for the high point to be a man looking down a ramp, not a medal. Not for you if you want the biography; the coach is an invention and Edwards himself put the share taken from his life very low.
