What Dofus - Book I: Julith Is About

Joris is a small boy in a blue hood with no family. He grows up in the city of Bonta with a weaponsmith and wears a pendant round his neck. There is a great tournament in the city and Joris wants to enter it. At the same time Julith is coming back; a powerful sorceress driven out years ago, she is coming to destroy the place. There is a bond between them that Joris does not know about. A crowded cast, flying ships and a great deal of fighting; the question of who the boy is moves through the middle of it. Anthony Roux directs with Jean-Jacques Denis. The film is set in the universe of the online game of the same name. It is a French production. The film stands close to the French tradition of animation; the hand drawn line is kept and the colour is vivid. The narrative is written for people who know the game's world; classes, cities and rules go by unexplained. The matter it treats is lineage; where the boy comes from is the engine of the story. The film uses a great deal of humour and lightens its moments of danger. The action is fast and rich in design. The narrative carries many characters and some are not opened enough. The film is built as the first link of a long series and does not fully close. The ending finishes on a renunciation. Its limit is context; the names are dense for anyone who does not know the game and the plot is crowded. Who it is for: viewers who like French animation and fantasy worlds. Who it is not for: it needs context, it is crowded, and the ending open.
