What Doin' It in the Park: Pick-Up Basketball, NYC Is About
The documentary is about the outdoor basketball scene of New York: the summer games set up in the parks, where nobody holds a licence and everybody knows the rules. The film covers what that game is, where it came from, what it does for a neighbourhood and how it reached the rest of the world. The directors went to more than a hundred courts and talked to players where they play, with names like Julius Erving among those who speak. Street basketball has a history, a set of nicknames and a hierarchy of its own, and the film shows all of it from inside. The ninety minute documentary by Kevin Couliau and Bobbito Garcia was completed in 2012.
