What The Redeem Team Is About
The American basketball team came home from the 2004 Athens Olympics with bronze, and at home that counted as more than a defeat. The documentary tells how the 2008 Beijing team was assembled: the three-year commitment Jerry Colangelo made the players sign, Mike Krzyzewski applying college discipline to professionals, and the hierarchy the squad built among themselves. Jon Weinbach uses behind-the-scenes footage and practice recordings from the period. In his interview for the film Kobe Bryant describes how he changed the team's tone; it was among his last interviews. The final against Spain was closer than expected and the documentary does not hide it. Who it is for: viewers who like basketball history and stories about building a team. Who it is not for: anyone wanting a critical eye, since the film stands close to the team's own account.
