Ada Vojtsik What Dream Is About
Anna grew up in a poor village. The village was in Ukraine. She left for the city in search of a better life. Three years passed. None of what she hoped for came about. She works two jobs. Where she lives is a rooming house. The others there are much like her. Every one of them had a dream that did not hold. The woman who runs the house is a character in her own right. The conversations around the table are at the centre of the film. Everyone imagines a different life. Nobody gets to it. The film’s title comes from that dream. Yelena Kuzmina and Faina Ranevskaya appear in the ninety nine minute film, a Soviet production Mikhail Romm finished in 1943.
