What Dream Horse Is About
A small town in South Wales. Jan Vokes, who works in a supermarket by day and behind a bar at night, decides to breed a racehorse knowing nothing about it. She persuades her neighbours to put in a few pounds a week and forms a syndicate; the horse is named Dream Alliance and becomes the town's hope. It is a true story, and the same events were told in the 2015 documentary Dark Horse; this is the dramatised version. Toni Collette plays Jan. It meets the emotional expectation with few surprises and is warm about working-class solidarity.
