Dreams That Money Can Buy

A man whose luck has run out, Joe, discovers he can show people their innermost dreams and sets about turning it into a business, something between entertainment and therapy, which will also win back the woman he wants. That frame exists to link seven separate dreams. Each dream was built by one of the leading artists of the day: Max Ernst, Man Ray, Marcel Duchamp, Alexander Calder and Fernand Léger, with music from John Cage and Darius Milhaud. Hans Richter wrote, directed and produced it, and Peggy Guggenheim was among those who paid for it. It cost twenty-five thousand dollars and took three years to finish. It won the prize for the best original contribution to the progress of cinematography at the 1947 Venice Film Festival. The cast list in the record includes Stanley Kubrick; none of the sources consulted mentions him, so it is not stated here.
