What Dummy Is About
When their mother dies suddenly, two brothers, seventeen year old Danny and young Jack, are left alone; nobody takes them in and the two try to manage at home by themselves. While Danny is carried off into music, drugs and nights out, Jack takes a life-size mannequin from a tailor’s, puts it in his mother’s place and starts talking to it. The obsession leads first to comic misunderstandings and then to a hard quarrel between the brothers, each of whom is grieving in a different way. Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Thomas Grant appear in Matthew Thompson’s ninety four minute British film, made on a small budget as a first feature.
