What Dusty and Sweets McGee Is About
The film tells the life of a couple who begin by trying drugs and end in heroin addiction. The account does not build this as a warning film, nor does it tell it as an epic of decline. The days settle into a similar order: finding money, looking, waiting. The account shows how quietly the passage can happen from a life counted as respectable into addiction. The film comes from the vein of American cinema of 1971 that stood between documentary and fiction. The street, the inside of a car and empty rooms are the real settings. What addiction takes most of all, which is time, lies under the account. Floyd Mutrux’s ninety two minute American film was completed in 1971.
