What Echoes of the Rainbow Is About
A narrow street in nineteen sixties Hong Kong, a family who repair shoes, and all of it seen through the eyes of the eight-year-old younger son. The father works, the mother bargains, the older brother is the pride of the school and the neighbourhood. Then the brother's health fails and the whole balance of the family shifts. Alex Law wrote it out of his own childhood. There is also this: the film was so loved that the street where it was shot, which was about to be demolished, was preserved. The Chinese title refers to time as a thief.
