What Edges of the Lord Is About
1942, occupied Poland. The son of a Jewish family is placed with Catholic peasant farmers in a village so that he can survive. He has to hide who he is, learning the Catholic prayers and blending in with the village children. As the children act out scenes from the gospels as a game, the game moves closer and closer to the real thing. The most argued-over aspect is the casting: an American child actor leads a story set in Poland and it is played in English, which puts a distance in that the film never closes. Willem Dafoe is the village priest.
