Eine Insel namens Udo

Nobody notices Udo. In the room he walks into, the bus he gets on, the table he speaks at, he is as good as invisible. Rather than treat that as a fault he has turned it into work: he is a store detective, moving along the edges of people's lives without being seen by anyone. Then he meets a woman and she sees him. Udo is not at all prepared for it. Markus Sehr's seventy seven minute German film uses invisibility not as a fantastical power but as a trait of character: Udo does not actually disappear, it is only that nobody looks at him. Kurt Krömer plays Udo; he is known in Germany as a comedian and does almost nothing funny here. Fritzi Haberlandt plays the woman opposite him. The tone is light with sadness underneath it.
