What El Alamein: The Line of Fire Is About
Serra, a university student from Palermo, volunteers for Africa in 1942 and is assigned to an Italian division at the southern end of the line in Egypt. First there is heat, thirst, hunger and endless waiting; then the British attack, and there is neither heroism nor luck inside the dying. During the retreat the Italian infantry is left without transport, which means crossing the desert on foot. Enzo Monteleone tells the war from the point of view of soldiers forgotten by their own command rather than of generals. One of the few Italian films to face that campaign at all.
