What El caso Almería Is About
On 10 May 1981 three young men driving from Santander to Almeria for a First Communion were stopped by Civil Guards who took them for ETA members, and they were tortured and killed. Pedro Costa Muste made this film only three years later, and he built it around the case that followed and around the lawyer acting for the families. Every kind of obstacle gets in the way of the judge trying to establish what happened, and in a country barely out of forty years of authoritarian rule, touching the military means risking your own life. It opened in Spain on 26 January 1984. Antonio Banderas appears in an early role, alongside Agustin Gonzalez and Juan Echanove.
