El Chanfle

El Chanfle stars Roberto Gómez Bolaños, also known as Chespirito, who wrote the film himself, playing the equipment and water boy for Club América, a team he genuinely supported in real life; most of the match, training, and locker room scenes were actually shot at Estadio Azteca. The film drew over 9.2 million viewers in Mexico, making it the second most watched Mexican film of the last fifty years, a success that led Bolaños to write and direct a sequel, El Chanfle II, in 1982. Who it's for: anyone curious about Chespirito channeling his real love of Club América onto screen, in one of the most watched films in Mexican cinema history. Who it's not for: viewers with no interest in football, since the film is deeply embedded in one club's world.
