Emma's Bliss

Max is diagnosed with cancer and told he does not have long. He takes his boss's off-the-books money from the used-car lot where he works and runs, then rolls the car and is left unconscious in a field. The person who pulls him out is Emma, who lives alone on a farm, raises pigs, and kills her animals herself, without frightening them. Max stays on to hide from both the police and his boss. In staying he finds what he was looking for: someone who knows there can be a calm way to die. Sven Taddicken directs, with Jördis Triebel as Emma and Jürgen Vogel as Max. A hundred and three minutes. On paper the subject is heavy; the film is light, warm and in places funny.
