What Empty Nets Is About
Amir, a young Iranian, takes work with a fisherman on the Caspian coast in order to earn the money he needs to marry Narges, the woman he loves. Taking that job pulls him into caviar poaching, and step by step a parallel order with its own rules and hierarchy becomes visible, an order that tightens around him with every move he makes. The further Amir rises in it, the more his bond with Narges is put at risk. Behrooz Karamizade’s ninety eight minute German Iranian co-production shows both the gulf between the wealthy and working people and the damage illegal fishing does to the Caspian. The film won the special jury award at Karlovy Vary. Hamid Reza Abbasi and Sadaf Asgari star.
