What The Color of Paradise Is About
Mohammad, blind from birth, comes home to his village for the summer from the boarding school for the blind in Tehran. He reads the world through his hands and his ears; grass, birds and water are all text to him. But his widowed father wants to remarry and fears a disabled son will ruin the arrangement. His grandmother and two sisters welcome the boy warmly, while the father’s decision hangs over the whole summer. Majid Majidi films the natural world without decorating it. Honest to the end, and about a blind child who sees more than anyone around him.
