What Muhammad: The Messenger of God Is About

Majid Majidi's film covers the childhood of the Prophet Muhammad, opening with Abraha's army marching on Mecca and the days before the birth. It was the most expensive production in Iranian cinema up to that point, photographed by Vittorio Storaro with a score by A. R. Rahman, and made as the first part of a planned trilogy. The Prophet's face is never shown in any scene and the camera follows him mostly from behind. That precaution did not settle the argument: Al-Azhar in Egypt called for the film to be banned.
