Enter the Clones of Bruce

David Gregory's 2023 documentary is about the imitation films that appeared after Bruce Lee's death. Producers found performers who resembled him, gave them names close to his and made dozens of films. The interest is how that industry worked. The performers speak for themselves; some treated it as a job, others tied their careers to the resemblance and could not leave it. The narrative does not make them ridiculous. Productions from Hong Kong, Korea and Taiwan are covered. Archive footage takes wide space and the distribution methods of the period are described. The tone is entertaining, but the question of exploitation also enters the record. Who it's for: those curious about the history of martial arts cinema and genre exploitation. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a biography of Bruce Lee; the documentary tells what came after him, not him.
