Everybody in Our Family

Marius is in his late thirties and divorced. His five-year-old daughter Sofia lives with her mother, which eats at him constantly. On the day he comes to collect her for the holiday they take every year, he is told the child is ill. He does not believe it and refuses to leave. What follows draws in the flat, the building, and eventually the police. Radu Jude keeps almost all of it inside one apartment and close to real time. The instant something funny is said the room hardens, and then something funny happens again. Nobody is entirely in the right and nobody is entirely in the wrong; Jude leaves the choosing to the audience and does it uncomfortably well.
