What Café de Flore Is About
The film runs two stories in parallel. In 1960s Paris, Jacqueline, a single mother, gives up everything to secure the most ordinary life possible for Laurent, her son with Down syndrome. In present day Montreal, Antoine is a successful DJ with everything in place: the career, two daughters, and Rose, whom he loves. His ex wife Carole, however, has not survived the separation. Jean-Marc Vallée binds the two strands by breaking chronology and by music, and what he is really asking is what it means to belong to someone. Vanessa Paradis plays Jacqueline.
