The Love That Remains

A couple in Iceland are separating. Three children, a farm and four seasons. The mother is an artist, the father a fisherman; both know it is over and the house is still shared. The film follows a year season by season. Hlynur Palmason wrote and directed. His own children play the children. His method is unchanged: shooting spread across a long period, real weather, and the landscape as part of the telling. The same frame is filmed again and again in different seasons. The story does not present the separation as an event; the process is quiet, long and mostly ordinary. How the children see it is the second axis. Humour arrives from unexpected places and keeps the tone from becoming heavy. It screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2025.
