Andrew, twenty-two and just out of college, has no plan. He is back home living with his mother and stepfather. He starts working as the person who gets the room going at bar and bat mitzvahs and finds he is good at it. At one of them he meets Domino and her autistic daughter Lola. What grows between Andrew and Domino is neither friendship nor a relationship, and neither of them knows what to do with it. Cooper Raiff wrote, directed, produced and stars. Dakota Johnson plays Domino, with Leslie Mann, Brad Garrett and Raul Castillo in the cast. Shooting began in Pittsburgh on 12 August 2021. It premiered at Sundance in January 2022 and won the Audience Award in US Dramatic Competition. Apple TV+ took the distribution rights for 15 million dollars, outbidding Netflix, Sony Pictures and Amazon Studios. It opened in limited release and on streaming on 17 June 2022. Rotten Tomatoes sits at 85 percent, the consensus calling it a touching dramedy that wears its heart proudly on its sleeve. The New York Times was harsh: derivative and unpersuasive, with a relationship that never makes sense. Who it is for: viewers who like independent films about being adrift in your twenties. Who it is not for: anyone who wants the age gap examined. The film does not treat it as a problem, and most of the criticism comes from exactly there.
