Feel My Voice

Eletta is the only hearing member of her family. Her mother, father and sibling are deaf; she is their link to the outside world, their interpreter, and in practice the person who runs the household. A teacher at school hears her voice and puts a choice in front of her: audition for a prestigious music school, or stay with her family. Luca Ribuoli directs, from a screenplay written with Cristiana Farina. The singer Sarah Toscano plays Eletta, in her first acting role. Serena Rossi plays the teacher. It went out on Netflix on 3 April 2026. The Italian title is Non abbiam bisogno di parole. The story is not original, and the chain is interesting in itself. The source is the 2014 French film La Famille Bélier, which was remade in America in 2021 as CODA and won the best picture Oscar. This is the third major adaptation of the same story. What separates the Italian version is the weight it gives the music. Toscano is an actual singer and the film puts her voice at the centre; the performance sections run longer than in either of the other two. The most sensitive question is how the deaf characters are played, which was the main argument around CODA, and this adaptation is measured by the same standard. Who it is for: viewers who like family musicals and emotional coming of age drama. Who it is not for: if you have seen the other two there are no surprises. The narrative follows exactly the same route.
