Castration Movie Anthology i. Traps

Louise Weard's 2024 film follows a trans sex worker living in Vancouver. Michaela is trying to get by, to guide a recently out friend, and to look into the possibility of motherhood. At the same time a production assistant slides into online men's communities as his own relationship falls apart. The film is very long and deliberately so. Scenes are not cut, conversations run in real time, and the narrative is in no hurry to arrive anywhere; the duration is itself a stance. Weard shot it with a very small crew and largely with friends. The two stories never intersect and the film leaves the connection to the viewer. The manner is raw, the sound uneven and the image irregular. Who it's for: those curious about experimental independent cinema and trans narratives. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a standard running time; the film runs past five hours and contains explicit sexual content, drug use and hate speech.
