An isolated town in Iceland. Ingimundur, the police chief, lost his wife in a car accident and refuses to talk about the grief; he looks after his granddaughter, builds a house, goes through the motions of therapy. Then, among her things, he finds signs that she had been involved with a man from the town. From there the film slides out of a story about grief into obsession and danger. Pálmason builds a house across months of fixed shots inside the fog; patience and violence sit in the same film. The child playing the granddaughter is the director's own daughter.
