What The Fly Is About
A scientist builds a device that moves matter from one place to another. Testing it on himself, he does not notice a fly enters the cabinet. The film treats the transformation not as a horror set piece but as a disaster inside a household; most of the narrative rests on his wife not knowing what to do, and the events open in flashback as a confession. Kurt Neumann directed, with Vincent Price in the cast. It is adapted from a magazine story and was shot in colour. Before watching: in 1986 David Cronenberg turned the same story into a far bloodier, more bodily film. This first version is a completely different picture, and expecting one while watching the other will disappoint.
