Everything You Want

In Rome, twenty-two-year-old Alessandro hangs around the streets, does not study and does not work, until his father forces him into a job. The job is spending afternoons with the eighty-five-year-old neighbour in the building. Giorgio was once a poet, now has Alzheimer's, and what he says appears to be nonsense. After a while Alessandro notices that the lines the man repeats are not random but the description of a place. Francesco Bruni turns the difference between generations into a treasure hunt and gets a genuinely propulsive road story out of it. Giorgio is played by the director Giuliano Montaldo. The real subject is what poetry is for and whether it can be conveyed to someone with no interest in it. Who it is for: viewers who like Italian generational comedy and road stories. Who it is not for: anyone who needs distance from dementia.
