What Falling Camellia Is About
Shinbei, a gifted swordsman exiled from his clan for looking too closely into its accounts, loses his wife eight years later. Before she dies she asks him to go back and help his old friend Uneme. When Shinbei returns, the infighting inside the clan is still going on; it emerges that the chief retainer has been diverting the clan’s money to himself, and the arrival of a young lord opens a gap in which things might be put right. Along the way the man also learns the reason behind his wife’s last wish. Junichi Okada and Hidetoshi Nishijima appear in Daisaku Kimura’s hundred and eleven minute Japanese film, completed in 2018.
