What Fanfan Is About
Alexandre has watched the excitement die out of every relationship and thinks he has found the reason: romance ends the moment desire is satisfied. When he meets Fanfan he decides to do it differently, and never to touch her. He also moves in next door to her flat and watches her through the mirror between them. The film presents this as a grand romantic gesture, while what is actually being described is surveillance. The charm of Sophie Marceau and Vincent Perez carries it, but the idea itself has aged. Alexandre Jardin adapted his own novel.
