Father

Tereza Nvotova's 2025 Slovak film follows a father who forgets his baby in the back seat of the car. It is not an accident and not negligence; it is a moment in which memory skips and the consequence cannot be undone. The film follows what comes after. The narrative does not show the event but the aftermath. Is the man guilty, is he ill, should he be punished; the people around him, the law and he himself answer differently. The film endorses none of them and holds the viewer inside that uncertainty. Milan Ondrik leads. Nvotova had worked on trauma and guilt before; here she keeps the tone cold and avoids steering the emotion. The cinematography stays close to the character. Who it's for: those who like Central European drama and films built on an ethical dilemma. Who it's not for: viewers sensitive to the death of an infant; the film places it at the centre and does not soften it.
