Feels Like Home

Gabor Holtai's 2026 Hungarian film begins with the kidnapping of an ordinary woman who lives alone. Her captors say she is not Rita but Szilvi, a girl who ran from their family; the more she objects the more they insist. The idea is that escape runs inward. To get out Rita begins playing Szilvi, but the more she resembles that person the more she learns of the family's past, and how far she is acting grows uncertain. The narrative uses the thriller form but its real subject is belonging. Rita had no one in her own life; belonging to a family, even a false one, gives her something, and the film shows that uncomfortable fact openly. Who it's for: those who like psychological thrillers and dramas about identity. Who it's not for: viewers sensitive to captivity and the forced imposition of an identity; the film puts both at its centre.
