What Film Without Title Is About
Three men gather on a houseboat. One is a screenwriter, one a director, one an actor. The war is over and a new film is to be made. But what to make is not settled. They do not want a film about the rubble. They do not want a political film either. They avoid the film about men coming home. In the end they find a story. There is a farmer’s daughter called Christine. She had met Martin, an antiques dealer, in Berlin. Before the war the difference in class stood between them. After the war the situation is turned around. Hans Sohnker and Hildegard Knef take the leads, with Irene von Meyendorff also in the cast, in Rudolf Jugert’s German film of 1948.
