What Fine, Totally Fine Is About
Yosuke Fujita's 2008 first feature gathers a few people whose lives refuse to settle. Teruo, about to turn thirty, drifts around his father's second-hand bookshop and dreams of building the scariest haunted house in the world. Through his childhood friend Hisanobu, an extraordinarily clumsy young woman named Akari comes to work at the shop. Nothing enormous happens and nobody suddenly gets their life together; instead the film looks patiently at people who do not quite fit the shape society expects. A comedy that keeps slapstick and sadness in the same scene without ever raising its voice. Yoshiyoshi Arakawa and Yoshino Kimura star.
