Flame of My Love

The account is set in Japan in the eighteen eighties. In those years the struggle of women for equality is going on. Eiko Hirayama lives in Okayama. One day she leaves there for Tokyo. In the city she comes into politics. She joins the newly formed Liberal Party. She begins working for it. She grows close to its leader Kentaro Omoi. A relationship starts between them. But the government will not allow the party. It is closed down and breaks up. After that Eiko looks for her own way. Kinuyo Tanaka and Mitsuko Mito take the leads, with Kuniko Miyake and Ichirō Sugai also in the cast, in Kenji Mizoguchi’s Japanese film of 1949.
