Flicka

A girl growing up on a Wyoming ranch tries to train a wild horse her father wants to sell. He wants her to finish school rather than stay on the ranch. The film uses the training as the equivalent of the relationship; the narrative works the tension between her demand to choose her own life and his wish to protect her. The landscape is given wide. Michael Mayer directed, with Alison Lohman and Tim McGraw, adapting Mary O'Hara's novel. A real warning: there are scenes in which animals are in danger and the death of an animal. It is presented as a family film, and that passage is heavy for small children.
