Fögi Is a Bastard

Beni is fifteen and boxed in at school and at home. At a concert he sees Fögi, the singer of a rock band, a man in his late twenties who knows how to hold attention. Beni leaves home and attaches himself to him. Fögi is interested at first and then starts using the boy: for money, for drugs, for things he does not want to do himself. Beni sees what is happening and still does not leave. The film tells this not as a love story but as a child being used by an adult. Marcel Gisler directs the Swiss film; ninety-one minutes, with Vincent Branchet as Beni and Frédéric Andrau as Fögi, adapted from Martin Frank's novel. At no point does the film let Fögi off; what it is describing is how Beni disappears.
