What For 80 Days Is About

Axun, who is seventy, is called to the hospital when her daughter’s former husband is badly hurt in a car accident and finds herself having to look after him. She is startled to see that the woman caring for the other patient in the same room is Maite, her closest friend when they were young; they have not seen each other in more than fifty years. As the hospital visits go on it becomes clear that the old closeness between them never ended. The film asks directly about desire in old age and about the thin line between friendship and love. Itziar Aizpuru plays the lead in the hundred and four minute Basque film by Jon Garano and Jose Mari Goenaga, completed in 2010.
