What Forest Giant Is About
Pasi returns to Törmälä, the town he grew up in, sent to reorganise the plywood factory there, which means preparing the layoffs. He and his upper-class wife are expecting a child, and he sees the job as a rung on the company ladder. As soon as he arrives he runs into Janne, a friend from childhood who works in the factory he is about to cut, and the whole village depends on that factory. That is where the trouble starts for him: he is expected to care about the profit and not about the people. Directed by Ville Jankeri, who adapted Miika Nousiainen’s 2011 novel with Timo Turunen, the film opened in September 2020.
