Kinky Boots

A man who inherits his father's shoe factory finds the business failing. Someone he meets at a nightclub suggests a product nobody makes: high-heeled boots built to carry a man's weight. The film joins the two characters through a shared fear rather than a contrast; both are carrying a father's expectation. The narrative also makes the resistance on the factory floor real rather than resolving it easily. Julian Jarrold directed, with Chiwetel Ejiofor and Joel Edgerton. It draws on a real change of course at an English factory, and the story was later adapted for the stage. Who it's for: those who like good-feeling English comedy.
