Forest of the Gods

At the centre of the account is a writer. In the film he is called the Professor. The man is a poet and a scholar. During the Second World War he is arrested. The charge is sedition. He is sent to the Stutthof camp. In the camp staying alive becomes the only question. What he saw there he writes down after the war. The book he wrote is among the first accounts of such a camp. But this time Soviet censorship stands in his way. For years the book cannot be published. The new order gives him no air either. The account comes from the book by Balys Sruoga. Valentinas Masalskis and Steven Berkoff take the leads in Algimantas Puipa’s British and Lithuanian coproduction of 2005.
