What Fragments of Antonin Is About
Antonin comes back from the First World War unable to speak; in hospital he repeats only a few disconnected words and nobody knows what they mean. A psychiatrist who works with traumatised soldiers begins to observe him and, following those words, uncovers piece by piece what the man went through at the front, each session bringing a little closer the scene the patient is avoiding. In Gabriel Le Bomin’s ninety minute French film, Grégori Derangère plays Antonin and Aurélien Recoing the doctor, with Niels Arestrup in the cast. It was completed in 2006 and tells the unseen wound of the war in a language drawn from the hospital records of the period.
