Craig, a marketing executive in Clovis, becomes friends with his new neighbour Austin, a meteorologist, and comes apart when Austin pulls the attention back. Andrew DeYoung's first feature treats the inability of middle-aged men to make friends less as comedy than as something close to horror. Tim Robinson carries his sketch register into a feature here, which is exactly what the critical consensus says: he expands an exquisitely painful cringe comedy style to feature length. Paul Rudd's Austin is the smarter idea, though. The man is not remarkable at all, just normal, and looks like a god only through Craig's eyes. It premiered at Toronto on 8 September 2024 in Midnight Madness and finished second runner-up for that section's audience award. A24 distributed it, releasing in May 2025 to a 16.6 million dollar gross. Who it is for: viewers who love I Think You Should Leave and want social embarrassment at full strength. Who it is not for: anyone who wants to laugh without squirming. The film humiliates you alongside its character and offers no exit.
