Twinless

The setup runs on a single lie, and the audience learns it early. Roman has lost his twin brother and goes to a support group for twinless twins. There he meets Dennis, who has also lost his twin. Outside the group the two become inseparable. But the story Dennis tells is not true, and the film's real subject is not grief itself but why someone would want to get inside another person's grief. James Sweeney wrote, directed, produced and plays Dennis. Dylan O'Brien plays both Roman and his dead twin. It premiered at Sundance in 2025, winning the US Dramatic Audience Award and a Special Jury Award for Acting for O'Brien. It opened in cinemas on 5 September. Who it is for: viewers who like black comedy built on grief and identity, in a film that does not try to defend its character. Who it is not for: anyone looking for someone to like. The behaviour at the centre is manipulative, and the film leaves the question of how far to forgive it with the viewer.
