What From the Rough Is About
Catana Starks, who coaches a university women’s swimming team, turns that success into the chance to build a men’s golf team from nothing and becomes the first woman in America to coach a men’s collegiate golf team. The squad she is handed is made up of young men from all over the world who have nothing in common and little taste for discipline. Starks fights both on the course and against the people around her who do not believe in her, and carries the team to a record result at a national tournament. Pierre Bagley’s ninety seven minute American film is based on a true story from Tennessee State University. Taraji P. Henson plays Starks, with Tom Felton, Michael Clarke Duncan and LeToya Luckett in the cast, and it was completed in 2013.
