Fukrey Returns

This 2017 comedy, a sequel to 2013's Fukrey, lifts four friends out of the comfort they earned at the end of the first film and puts them back in debt. Choocha, Hunny, Lali and Zafar are having the best stretch of their lives when Bholi Punjaban gets out of prison early and completely broke. The series premise survives intact: Choocha's dreams turn into lottery numbers. The sequel spreads that idea across a larger swindle and keeps the humour rooted in Delhi street slang. Richa Chadha's Bholi stays genuinely threatening while remaining funny. The construction is looser and broader than the first film, though the group dynamic works just as well. It did solid business in India. Who it's for: viewers who like Indian street comedy and returning to a familiar set of friends. Who it's not for: anyone who has not seen the first film, or who wants a tightly built script.
